CineScience: A Walk in the Woods

A lot of research is done at WUR on topics such as biodiversity, effects of nitrogen on nature and the design of rural areas. To give better insight into the current situation and future possibilities, maps are often produced. Many (Dutch) people know the nitrogen map of Minister Van der Wal, and you might have seen the future-proof vision of NL2120. But how do you decide what such a map should look like? You will find out during this informative and relaxing film evening.

What do you show on a map, and what not? How do you make sure a map tells a clear message? Hans Roelofsen asks himself such questions every day. As a landscape ecologist and GIS specialist, you could also call him a 'map maker'. How important it is to have a good map becomes clear in the comedy 'A Walk in the Woods' where two good friends seem to lose their way, but simultaneously find each other because of it. A film adaptation of the wonderful book by Bill Bryson, who can tell stories about nature and travel like no other.

A film to lose yourself in - and learn something about maps and landscaping at the same time.

The introduction is in English, the film is English spoken and subtitled in Dutch.
