ROSSA - Resource Oriented Sanitation Services in Adama

The rapid urbanization of Adama city in Ethiopia (4% annual population growth) has resulted in several poor urban settlements. The lack of safe sanitation and hygienic practices particularly in low income areas (Kebeles 06, 07 and 08) result in direct and indirect threats to the public health and the environmental pollution.

The ROSSA project is a unique programme for aligning all necessary partners to change the way of sanitation in Adama. This sanitation cooperation aims together to develop innovative concepts for toilet construction, collection and transport, treatment and reuse of human excreta and organic waste with an eye to local economic development which can be applicable in Adama and the rest of the world.
